Update on my Shopping Diet and CENSORSHIP!
First thing is first, this shopping diet.....SUCKS! I have not bought anything frivoulous or fun in a friggin week and it's killing me! Where is my state of Nirvana??????? Where is my awakening, my "vision"? But none the less I trudge on......Damn it!
Onto a topic I find an important part of American Society - censorship. You know, the other day I realized that I have over 100 hits to this blog and over 1,000 to my Myspace site. While I know that I am by now means societies idea of a beauty queen, something keeps you all coming back...and it sure as hell isn't to borrow money :) So I have deduced that you continue to return 1) out of morbid curiosity or 2) you appreciate my opinions and views....in either event, THANKS! I appreciate it :)
Anyway, today I would like to opine on the topic of freedom of speech, opinion and the right to print and speak as one feels appropriate. This is a guareented RIGHT affoarded to us by the constitution and protected by many activitst groups, one of which I am a proud feild activist, FirstFreedomFirst ( their primary goal is the importance of the separation of Church and State BUT they do support first amendment rights as well).....it is an important RIGHT!
There are many examples I could use of HOW our First Admendment rights are demonstrated in appropriate, helpful ways...but considering that this is an election year, I am sure that you already feel inundated with such information - ecspecially if you watch CNN or Fox News for longer than 10 minutes a day! Freedom of press, freedom to lobby and protest, freedom to print which stars are pregnant, druggies, etc...is all included to some variety so, I will use a simple basic example here - blogging and electronic journals.
I will never forget the first time I was SHOWN the importance of the First Amendment. It was the early 90's and I was living with my father and stapmom. For those of you who do not know, my father is an observant Eastern European Jew. We were sitting at the breakfast table one morning when my father mentioned that the KKK was to be part of a parade in a nearby Baltimore parade. It infuriated me as I knew that these people stood for no good and promoted hatred - particularly against people like me and my dad. I was angry that these assinine biggots were allowed to raom the streets let alone showboat their hate and spew diatribes full of anger and racism. I expected my father to be just as angry! Instead, he told me about how history has repeatedly taught us that the ability to speak one's mind and stand up for one's beliefs despite differing opinions - our fiirst amendment - is such an important role in American life and that if you allow government censorship on anything...if you let out the monster...there is NO telling where it ends....Yes, he was saddened to have this hate group so close to home and certainly disagreed with their forum BUT, he respected their First amendement right to be there and just chose for our family to "make a statement" by not attending the parade. That display lit a fire in me!!!!!!! So long as statements are TRUE and not "twisted" or "spun" so as to deliberately hurt another person either mentally or physically, I, too, have the right to say what I choose, I too, have the right to speak on MY forum of things that are important to ME! I too have the right to say what I need to say irreguardless of others amicability ..And so I shall continue! For those who are in disagreement, they can also excersize their right to not read this any further. For those who choose to read on - I promise you many more exciting reads.........
Have a great day, Us 3 Witches are cleaning and organizing.........
Peace....
