The downside of sugar rushes.......
In the days of old, Wiccans would gather in their clandestine Covens in the valley of a beautiful mountain or a gentle clearing in a nearby wooded area in Europe to worship Samhain. They would don their capes and chant to the dseparted souls until they could feel the embrace and love of that Soul sweep through their body, they would mourn those souls recently lost and the resting of Father until he awakens at Yule. They would marvel at the moon, make up their offering to the deceased and uphold a beautiful, sacred, centuries old tradition in honor of the Earth based Gods. They would also remember that this WAS Wiccan New Year, the second highest Sabbat next to Beltane in May. Picture a beautiful dark sky, moons shining, the delicate lull of the Coven chant, the music comming from a lovely hand carved flute, all basking in the glow of Mother moon....(in her Crone phase, of course)...
Now, "Halloween" as we know it - Wee Witch and I were invited to a pizza party at a neighbor's apartment which was fun! Afterwards, the kids went trick or treating for almost 2 hours!! Wee Witch was Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz - AGAIN! The $10 I spent on that costume in 2005 has been well worth it....They made out with quite a haul - which Mama and Papa Witch thoroughly enjoyed later that evening - TeeHee! After the trick or treating we went back to the party for brownies and coffee so the girls could play and dance and sort their candy....we didn't get home until after 9pm and PASSED OUT on the couch! Ashley was so excited to get so many Kit Kat bars for Papa Witch - it was cute! After the sugar rush of yesterday I had 2 VERY tired girls this morning to get ready for school - that was as fun as a tooth extraction which Wee Witch will probably need after the 10lbs. of sugar she ate!
I held a small Samhain rite and really hope to make my Ancestors proud in our New Year and change some old habits....I was sure to remember the famous, the victims of some of this year's tragedies (like the VA Tech. shooting) and those near and dear who now live Blissfully and at Peace in the Summerland. Hopefully next year, I will have completed my training and will be holding my rite as a Priestess! I start Nov. 9th!
Gotta run for now - waiting to hear from my 2 girls, Melody and Jenn who had Halloween babies.....
Merry Fall....
